Review of Q-See QSNDVR4R 4 Channel MJPEG Digital Video Recorder w/Internet Monitoring & USB Port for Backup

I chose this Q-See QSNDVR4R for 2 reasons 1) it has a network jack for internet connectivity/monitoring 2) price. It works most of the time but has some serious shortcomings.

The software to monitor over the internet is terrible. You are severely limited as to what you can do when playing back events and I've found that the software will actually crash (the DVR!) if you are unlucky enough like I have been with it.It will also allow only one machine to connect and so if you leave it connected from one machine and then need to get to it from another you are out of luck as there is no way to disconnect the first machine remotely.Occasionally when you disconnect properly it does not exit cleanly and then you need to reboot the unit to get back into it.There is also not a graceful way to shut down the unit so you just have to pull the plug and hope your data does not get corrupted

Running in 24x7 record mode it works like a champ, and seems like this is what it was really designed to do.However, if you want it to monitor motion-triggered events and then play that over the internet (or your local network) it really doesn't work well, and sometimes not at all.It has no means of contacting you (via email or text message, for example, when it sees motion where its shouldn't be), which would be nice, and you have to use the proprietary software instead of a web browser which would really make it more versatile when you aren't at a machine where you have the special software loaded (a friends house or work, perhaps).

Unless you are in the market for a bargain basement unit that you don't plan on actually needing to monitor very often remotely I would look elsewhere. This *is* a cheap unit and clearly a case of "you get what you pay for".I'll be selling mine for cheap and will do some more research on a better unit for my replacement purchase.

Review of TRENDnet SecurView 7-Inch Wireless Internet Surveillance Camera and Photo Monitor TV-M7 (White)

This unit works OK with older TrendNet IP cameras, but is not compatible with their newer cameras using 802.11N wireless and/or newer web server firmware, such as the TV-IP512WM.According to their support people, there is no plan to upgrade the TV-M7 for comatibiity.

Also, it does not appear to be able to control the camera steering on a camera such as the TV-IP422W.

Altogether, a disappointing purchase.

Review of Lorex 8 Channel Triplex Surveillance DVR with 250GB Hard Drive, Integrated DVD-RW & Internet Remote Accessibility

LOTS OF NICE FEATURES BUT DON'T TRY CONNECTING A VGA MONITOR TO THIS DVR IF LATER IN THE FUTURE YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE THE TV VIDEO OUTLETS. THIS WILL RENDER THE COMPOSITE OUTLETS USELESS AND TO NEVER WORK AGAIN! I'VE TRY RESETING AND REMOVING THE INTERNAL BATTERY TO TRY TO GET THIS DVR BACK TO ORIGINAL STATE, TO NO AVAIL. IF YOU START OUT USING THE TV OUTLETS AND NEVER CONNECT A VGA MONITOR TO THE UNIT, YOU PROBABLY WOULD NEVER KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO OF THESE CVR'S. LOREX TECHINCAL SUPPORT CAN'T HELP, BECAUSE THEY DON'T THINK THERE'S A PROBLEM OR WON'T FESS UP TO IT.

Review of D-Link Wireless Internet Camera DCS-G900

I purchased the DCS-G900 in August and it works as advertised. It can be accessed and administered with just your web browser (type the camera's IP address into the address bar), or you can use the IPView Lite SE that comes with the camera to gain some extra features like Motion Detection, multiple camera control (up to 4) within the same IPView window and the ability to rotate the image 90 degrees (the internal camera settings will allow you to only mirror and\or flip the image, not turn it 90 degrees).

The max resolution is 640x480 (300K pixels), so it's not the same quality as a mega-pixel digital camera, but I have it trained on the front door at my place of business and I can recognize the people coming and going.

I tested the email feature and it works great.Enter the same credentials you use to log into your regular ISP mailbox, enter a recipient's address and you're off and running.

I installed the IPView software specifically for the Motion Detection feature. The camera is still always on and displaying a live picture, but when motion detection is enabled, it also automatically starts/stops recording any activity causing change in the camera's image. The amount of change in the image required to activate the recording is adjustable using a SENSITIVITY slider. The downside to that is now I need a computer up and running just to host IPView and provide storage space for the recordings....They could have built the motion detection functionality into the camera, but then you'd still need storage space for the recordings and we'd probably being paying more for the camera.

The Power and Link LED lights can be set to NORMAL, so folks can see the thing is actively working, or OFF, so it doesn't grab anyone's attention, or DUMMY, which makes them blink randomly so people can't tell if they're being seen or not.

I too initially had a problem getting the camera to locate my wireless network but it wasn't the camera's fault.Like any good network administrator, I disabled my wireless router's ability to broadcast my network's SSID (name), which effectively means there was no network name for the camera to find.If you momentarily enable the SSID broadcast on your wireless router, your camera should be able to find the network and complete the handshake.Once your camera has made the connection, you can once again disable the SSID broadcast and leave it disabled (until you want to connect another device).

I haven't used the FTP feature, but if it works as well as the email feature, you should be happy with the result.

I can't speak about the quality of customer service, as there was no need for it.

For the price and quality of this camera, you can't go wrong!!

Review of Intellinet Network Ip Camera, 550710

The Intellinet IP Camera Model 550710 is a performer.I ordered it to provide both security and monitoring at our business AND to be able to access the view anywhere in the world through the web.Setup is fast (although assigning the IP address is a little complicated for a non-network tech like me - I simply called my internet provider and we got the settings set up, you do need to request a static IP address). The picture is very sharp and clear, and the software it comes with is clear. For the price, this is a durable and effective little camera.

Review of 4UCAM Pan & Tilt IP Network Camera IR Night Vision Video Audio Color digital Zoom Motion detect

The camera we ordered didn't work on arrival. It was physically intact and the light came on, but it could not connect to the LAN.By the time we verified it was broken by discussing with DBROTH technical support over email (which was not very helpful) and a local IP camera expert, the period for returns had already passed. In the meantime, we needed a working camera urgently for our baby and bought another one. That said, DBROTH was very nice to eventually give us a refund for the camera anyway, even though we returned it late.

Review of D-Link Wireless G Internet Camera

D-link really needs to figure out why this camera locks up all the time. Their knowledge base only says to unplug it and plug it back in when it locks up (so D-Link obviously knows this is a problem). Sure enough, that does the trick, but when it locks up while you're accessing it remotely from the internet (i.e. you're simply not home to unplug it and reset it), you're out of luck -- camera is dead until you get home to fix it. This maddening problem really ought not to exist in a 400 dollar camera.

Review of SVAT IP100 Color Internet Camera with 6 Infrared LEDs

I am not an network expert but had the CAM working in minutes as well, following their suggested firmware update.Reiterating the previous reviews, I also agree the password scheme is unnecessarily complicated, but not such a problem in the long run. I also think installing the software is a waste. I avoided it. I just configured it directly after connecting to my network. I actually have it connected to a wireless adapter... because my router is located in a different room. Works perfectly. Cam to wireless adapter (WGE111) to wireless router to internet. I check it from my office and utilizing the image capture feature for uploading to an FTP server, I check the image from my cell phone when a computer isn't easily accessible. I am pleased, especially given the price.

The performance in brightly lit areas is good. In very low light, the 6 IR LEDs aren't sufficient illuminiation. I supplement it with a cheap IR LED light and it works well enough. It beats paying 4x more for similar cams.

Review of Lorex 4 Ch. Pentaplex Network Internet Remote Access DVR w/300 GB HDD

I ordered this unit in 2007. However, for various reasons, I did not install it until the summer of 2008. Suffice it to say that it has been nothing but trouble since then. The installation manual appears to be complete until you try to set the unit to be accessible over the internet. Pieces of information for setting that up are found all over the manual. BTW, they failed to add page references for linked information, i.e., See page xx. I am director of information technologies for a prominent college so my staff and I are far from technology neophytes. However, it was only after I got advice from two of my staff that I finally got the unit online -- one of them an expert in CCTV and networked DVRs.

Since then, the Lorex DVR has dropped off the internet on many occasions. At first, I thought it was because my ISP was changing IP addresses. That turned out not to be the case. Lorex uses [...]t to provide DDNS service. I soon learned that they their system was often down. So, I began using [...]. Their service was great but they could provide DDNS service only when the Lorex DVR was working properly.

I found that Lorex tech service was spotty at best and their techs often knew less about the product than I did. (I probably spent 75 hours trying to get the DVR to function properly.) They often ignored emails and always required me to be "in front of the unit" when I called. That was not easy given my work schedule and their service hours. I once exchanged emails with one tech because of a video display problem. He had me go through all sorts of processes including loading new firmware. I even sent .jpegs of the screen. It turned out I had accidentally flipped the tiny NTSC/PAL switch on the back of the unit. When I diagnosed it myself, he had never thought of that possibility.

Within the last month, the unit started to fail completely. It would appear on the net only sporadically and I had to reset it numerous times. Then it began to freeze and the "menu" was not accessible manually or by using the remote. Unplugging it was the only solution but that, too, stopped working after a couple of weeks. The unit would start loading programs and then lock up.

Over the weekend, I ordered a new DVR from another company. After having paid almost $800 for the Lorex 4-channel, 300GB DVR and having so many problems, I am not a happy consumer. The new unit cost less than $700 and is 8-channel with a 500GB hard drive. Hopefully, it will provide better service.

Bottom line: I wouldn't touch another Lorex product for any amount of money. However, your mileage may vary.

Review of TRENDnet ProView Advanced Pan/Tilt/Zoom Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP400 (Blue)

I purchased this camera to use at my cabin. I have trouble keeping a computer with a conventional webcam alive when I'm not there, so this was a great solution since it plugs straight into the router and functions without a computer. I find the picture quality to be good as long as there is adequate lighting. Actually, you can see quite a bit even in low light. I haven't been able to figure out how to put the video feed onto a separate web page, otherwise I would give the camera five stars. Programming the router for remote access via your ISP is not all that easy, but it can be done with a little understanding of IP addressing and networks. The camera has an amazing pan and tilt range!

Review of Defender DFDVR2 Ultra Compact Internet Accessible DVR Security System - Digital Video Recorder

I purchased the system after our home was broken into. I installed it in addition to an alarm system. It gives us a greater feeling of security. Fishing the wires through the wall and attic was a bit of work, but that would be necessary with any system that is not wireless. Overall the product was very easy to set up. The picture quality is what I would expect for a security camera. You need to place the camera where one would come within a yard or so of it to get a clear image of someone's face, but that's really not too hard to do. My wife was surprised that the cameras did not negatively impact the aesthetics of our home (i.e., you can see them if you look, but they aren't overly obtrusive). I have purchased a router so that I can connect it to the internet and monitor it remotely.

Review of Q-See QSTD2408-500 8-Channel H.264 CIF Real-time Recording DVR with Mobile Phone Surveillance, Remote Internet Monitoring and Pre-Installed 500GB HDD

Overall this is a nice product. There are somethings that will make you want to run to the nearest medicine cabinet and pull out the asprin but overall the DVR works as advertised.
CONS:
1. Noisy, if you planned on placing this somewhere in the open plan on hearing it run, the fan is very noisy. Not a problem for my installation as it is in an area which I seldom enter.
2. Big.The unit is larger (Depth) than some others but again not a big issue if you have the room for it.
3. Manual.Ok, this will make you run and buy another bottle of asprin. The manual is written in an "interesting" fashion. You can download a copy of it from the Q-See website if your interesting in seeing it before you buy it.Most of the setup is easy, you may have some problems with the internet portion, but most teenagers should be able to get that hooked up for you in no time.
4.Mouse could be alot better quality than what they put, but with the cost of a good mouse being as low as they are not really a problem overall.Mouse is USB by the way.

PROS:
1.Handles the inputs of both PAL and NTSC without problems (yes, only one type at a time and you can not mix them but most people do not worry about that so pretty much a non issue).
2.Is 110/220 volt.Nice for those who may move around alot or live outside the USA.
3.Good quality recording, monitoring and overall video feed. The live view has a very slight delay but nothing to really worry about. The recording comes out a very good quality.Have not been able to test all 8 cameras at same time yet but will update when I can for now this comment is based on 5 cameras at once.

Overall I would give this a 4 as the item works exactly as advertised.

Review of D-Link DCS-6620 10/100TX PTZ Dual Codec 0.05 Lux Optical Zoom Internet Camera

There is an entire series of these cameras produced by Dlink, which can be grouped into one product line. This being the most expensive of the line, would have the least reviews and exposure. Read about the others before buying.

I was just called to a new client site last week that has 11 cameras installed.
Of the 11, half at any given time will drop off the network and/or lock up. He was continually calling his exiting tech guy who performed the install to reset them and eventually called me in because he wasn't getting in his own words "what he paid for".

I've used netstumlber and a few other apps to verify the wireless network health, which in my opinion is very good. At the farthest point, I am still receiving 92% signal with a non-enhanced Linksys router. Other devices on his network are problem free; the issues are isolated to the cameras.

Short of recommending the client box them and send them back for a refund, I've emailed DLink for any opinions or aftermarket "fixes". They are running the latest firmware. I've tried to pick a few up on E-Bay to at least test them in a controlled environment, but spending $400 per camera when there are obvious problems would not be something I would be willing to invest in. It would be something I would be interested in since if they do work as promised, I could recommend them to future clients.

My credentials, ex-NYPD officer and instructor, CCNP/CCDP CISSP, have a 10+ year networking business serving major Brokerage houses in Manhattan and have a smaller business auditing networks, recommending network security, and wireless solutions.

I will follow-up if Dlink provides an actual solution. AIM is my username above if anyone has jumped this hurdle.

FOLLOW-UP
10 days have passed and not a peep back from DLink Tech support. Considering that the inquiry was for a $6500 total DLink purchase which was detailed in the e-mail, it would lead someone to believe that selling is important, support is not. I called their sales line and someone immediately picked up. Sorry, Ford Motors in 1908 wouldn't have survived if their Model-T failed to start "most" of the time.

The cameras were boxed up and sent back. I was able to pull a few down and place them in a controlled environment for testing. Of the 3 I tested, 1 locked up within 24 hours. Not a good score. Still they also are trying to get into the infrastructure market with hubs, switches, and larger corporate items. I support over 40,000 users on my main account and their line is one I can't recommend.

Waiting for DLink. Not too confident they will get back to me.

Review of TRENDnet Wireless Internet Surveillance Camera Server with Audio TVIP201W

I've been using this camera in my home for about 2 years for surveillance. I suspect that most people are interested in using this camera for the same reason, which means you must have software that will support that function. The picture quality is very good with good lighting, usuable in moderate lighting, and not useful in low light settings. The wireless connection is very reliable and networking setup is straightforward. So if all you really want is to be able to glance at a screen and see what's going on "live", then this is a great choice.

For surveillance, and in particular to review activity later, software is a really problem. I've tried a few different software packages, some free (including Trendnet's included software), some paid. In general, no software is really great for what I want, but ultimately I am using Zoneminder (free) running on my Linux server. Yes, this requires some technical know-how, I now have motion-detected video recording with a decent picture for a low price.

I rate the camera 4 stars. If the included software were better, it would be a 5. Since I already had a server running that I could install the free zoneminder software and configure this camera to be used easily, I rate the camera 4 stars. Without zoneminder available, the camera would rate 3 stars. Ease of use is only 3 stars since for that same reason. I have not had to call tech support, so I can't comment.

Review of D-Link DCS-5300W Wireless Internet Camera, Pan/Tilt, 802.11b, Built-in Mic

I am giving 5 stars to the camera alone. If I had to rate the colaterals: Instructions, manuals, customer service, and intentional obstacles ...then It wont deserve more than 3 stars.
When correctly configured and "harmonized" within your network, the camera works very well. I dont know about your expectations but compared with others ccd cameras in the market the balance price/quality is unbeatable.
Since any critic must be 1) constructive to the maker and 2) helpful to other customers, following ...the details and tips:
Problem: Lack of information, Instructions and solutions to specific and commom problems experienced by most of the users.
**** Read Carefully what the other users who rated positively the camera, said about it and how they resolved the problems. Without all these tips I would have wasted hours to findout the solutions. Amazingly those issues are not yet in the Q&A at DLINK support site and neither complement pages for your manuals. Another Marketing Dude with a good monthly check but not a clue about the most fundamental Marketing disciplines.
Resuming:
**** Not only with the camera or Dlink... Any thing hooked to your PC or network must be updated with the most recent firmware. Here...No exceptions, and if you use diferent brands for your router and other net-gears then no option: Update the firmware.
**** If you are behind a router and you want use the DDNS than use the router's feature and not the camera one.
**** If you are using diferent brand for your router... WATCH OUT:
a) Transmission rate of the camera must be 11 Mbs. DLINK's ambitions must have let them think that most of the routers in the market are their own, so the 22 Mbs for the 802.11 b standard has been assumed.
b) If your using Linksys G router then adjust the basic rate (wireless advanced setup) to 1-2 Mps This will make it more compatible with all sort of exotic 11B devices.
c) Assign to the camera a static IP so you will be able to forward through the router, the necessary ports for Audio+Video
**** Customer Service:.... Have a translator from India before calling ( My english teatcher and friend Kamal is from India...so no hard feelings here ), and be sure that you are a beginer because if you are an advanced user you ll have to be patient and wait untill the dude finishes his script and then find out that you know more than him and it it is only then when you deserve a real tech. assistant. The dude will give you a code, forward your call and then when "the expert" takes the phone the call is lost. bip bip bip bip.....nnnnoooooooooo all this time wasted and I only got an "Indie-Tech" Language Class.
Hey Markting Dude This is again your department...uppps Remember...: No Emporwerment Without Ownership...you ll be soon in the toaster if you dont change something.

Review of TRENDnet SecurView 7-Inch Wireless Surveillance Camera Monitor Kit TV-M7110WK (Silver)

This is my first Trendnet purchase and it will be my last.I am not sure why they thought it was a good idea to include a camera that doesn't support sound in a package marketed for baby monitoring and security.Actually the camera was the best part of the package. The monitor was useless.Even after a firmware upgrade it was so slow and sluggish that is was unusable. The software setup was not intuitive at all.I finally got it on the wifi network but it would only take a snapshot of the camera and then lockup.I also found it odd that it was able to take a snapshot of the camera without ever entering the camera password which makes me think the camera wasn't very secure.I found another review online that noted the same problems with the M7 being unresponsive.I am not sure how a company can release such garbage on consumers.

Review of TRENDnet ProView PoE Internet Surveillance Camera with 16x Digital Zoom TV-IP512P (White)

Let me start by stating that I had to return this IP camera. The major reason is that it does not have exposure compensation and it has a manual focus. It is configured for indoor ambient light settings. Not too bright and not too dim.I also realized that the camera/CCD chip does not have a sufficient dynamic range to capure a scene with both bright and dard areas. If this is a requirement, then this camera will not perform for you.

The Trendnet software does provide image brightness controls but the controls appear to operate on the received image not setting the camera's exposure settings.Hence an over exposed image will remain overexposed.

TrendNet has Setup program on the CD which installs a setup program! This is rather confusing.Installation is clumsy but with patience, I got it configured. The Power over Ethernet worked perfectly.

Based on physical construction, including the pacement of the connectors, the TrendNet Camera appears to be a Dlink camera. In fact using Blue Iris Video Monitoring software, the camera responds as if it is a DLink DCS-3410 or 2102.

The focus is manual.A real PITA when you must mount it and then have someone monitor the video and keep farting with the focus. And given the 1-2 second delay in the video, its easy to keep missing the focus point.
Trendnet also provides a simple but good mounting bracket.

I also tried out their user support.I connected to a person relatively quickly.I offer them the opportunity to the tech support person to connect directly to the camera remotely which they declined (I configured port forwarding on my router).Their first fix for the over exposure was to place the camera in night mode!!What??That would make it even more over exposed! They ignored my comment.Put meon hold and when they came back and she said it can't be used for viewing outside.

Perhaps I've been spoiled by the Toshiba line of IP cameras. They are a lot more expensive, but their engineering, software and hardware is top notch compared to TrendNet.So if your needs are for video where the lighting does not vary much from ambient indoor lighting, and you can only afford $200, this camera may work for you.

Review of TRENDnet ProView Wireless Advanced Pan/Tilt/Zoom Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP400W

Works as advertised, but the Java plugin is mysterious.I can't get it to work in Java mode on my Vista based PC, but it does on XP.None of my Macs can do it over the web.Active X in Explorer works fine.A bit pickier than the stationary trendnets.

Camera works great, easy setup, worth the price.Just be aware you're not going to view live motion with anything by Windows Explorer and Active X.

title pretty much says it all... i would stay clear.. the video quality was subpar (what do you expect for something so cheap i guess) but the fact that you have to use IE, and have to edit the security settings in IE to allow the installation of unsigned drivers in order to install the cam.. ya, no thanks...

Review of TRENDnet ProView Wireless Pan/Tilt/Zoom Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP600W (White)

I purchased this camera based on assurances from TrendNet that it was fully Mac compatible. THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

#1, TrendNet does not provide any written instructions for using this camera with a Mac.
#2. If you figure it out on your own, then there are new problems...While you can sometimes view the camera in Safari, it is very difficult to administer the camera. Safari simply cannot display the web pages correctly. As for FireFox... it just crashes. (BTW: I am on 10.6.1 with the latest Safari and Fireox)

However, since they offer a Java option (in addition to Active-X) you can view video on browsers other than IE.So, you can view video on Safari. The camera does work with EVO-Cam... but, that costs $30 more.

Other than that, the camera has a decent picture, but the configuration options are really limited. There is no ability to add a date/time stamp to snapshots and the only way to do motion detection is through their Windows software product IPView PRO 2.0 (which, does not run on a Mac).

All-in-all, If I had known the true limitations of the camera, I would have bought something else.

Review of TRENDnet ProView Wireless N Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP512WN (White)

First and foremost I have been using this camera for only 2 weeks, so I do not claim to be an expert with this item just yet.

Pros:
1) The camera image quality is amazing, it delivers vivid images that can be tweaked in the IE firmware/software and in Trendnet 2.0 software that is supplied.

2) The 2 way audio from the built in microphone is also very good, although most of the time I turn it off because it picks up more of my own conversations than I care for.

3) The camera can be used outdoors, but you will need to buy a Camera Enclosure to protect it and have a near by power source, you can purchase a CE off of e-Bay for $40.

4) You can monitor your home/office anywhere you want from anywhere in the world.

Cons:

1) I had to contact tech support 4 times to try and understand their convoluted software. The software is very confusing, and I have worked with some of the most complicated software ever produced.

2) The tech support Trendnet has contracted are all from India, so they all have really thick accents, so often you are having to ask them 2 and 3 times to repeat themselves so that you can hear their instructions once, this is very frustrating but sadly par for the course.

3) For my particular usage I wanted to record all the time, so I purchased a 500GB hard drive and named it my surveillance HDD with the sole intent of just monitoring my home.Their IPView Pro 2.0 software supplied with the disc is out of date, a new version must be downloaded from their website.Sadly the new IPView Pro 2.0 software version is plagued with bugs, I wanted to record continuously, but it will only record for one day then it shuts the camera off.It says I have no more space allowed for allocating new recordings, but I have a 500 GB drive with less than 2% used for a 24 hour recording!Eventually out of frustration I went back to the firmware/software supplied by logging into the camera's IP address and now I have it recording all the time, but it will only record in 1 minute increments, but it records continuously. This could be a pain if you want to locate an event that occurred sometime over night and I have to make a new file for each new day and move last nights recording over to it by hand, EVERY DAY!

4) I have not figured out how to get the IE software or IP Pro software to only record when it detects motion as the box claims it can do, if it could do this then big hard drives wouldn't be needed.

I will update my findings on this camera in the next 3 weeks, and if Trendnet decides wisely to put out another software update that fixes this space allocation issue with the 2.0 software for continuous recording then I might well shift my 4 stars to 5.

Review of Wireless N Internet Home Monitoring Camera

We've been using the WVC80N camera for a while on our home network with a Linksys WRT350N router. The WVC80N is the next generation IP camera from Linksys. It's older similar looking twin the WVC54GCA is good but had some issues that the WVC80N solves. You can see reviews of the WVC54GCA cam at myhomeserver.

The WVC80N adds Wireless N, an easier setup for Remote Viewing and best of all, direct writing to a NAS drive to record video! This means you don't have to keep a computer running, simply setup a shared folder on your NAS/Network drive and then add in the path, username and password into the camera and that's it!It will instantly start recording a AVI file to the drive directly that you can play in Windows Media player, etc.

Remote access is also better since it is now included as an option in the CD wizard. When you setup the camera, it asks if you want to remotely view the camera.Selecting YES will setup a custom domain name [...] and then the wizard will set a static IP on the camera and setup the DDNS at TZO and set it up in the camera. All of this is done behind the scenes and it does all of the port forwarding and port selection automatically. This is a big advancement in camera setups..its actually easy

Great camera, I give it a thumbs up

Review of Cisco PVC2300 Business Internet Security Video Camera w/Audio

I was extremely excited about this product when I saw it.It has the Cisco name, PoE, HTTP and RTSP protocols built in.

Initially, I thought it was a perfect fit for my needs. I need to webcast something to a viewing audience around the globe, not a lot of people, but enough that I needed RTSP capability.

This camera would not broadcast outside the router firewall. It worked fine inside the private network, streaming to Windows Media and RealPlayer.

But when we opened up the firewall ports for outside viewing, NOTHING. The players could connect to the camera fine (login authentication was requested) but the video would simply not stream.

I contacted Cisco, and they told me it was my router set up and they couldn't do anything about it. I read things, went on message boards, etc.Nothing about this particular camera was helpful.

I called Cisco back and demanded they look into it.I told them that we weren't dummies, that we knew how to open up ports on the firewall (we got the HTTP stream just fine).

Turns out, their engineering staff couldn't get it to work either!

On top of that, it turned out that their activeX certificate built into the firmware was expired.Expired! You couldn't load their HTTP viewer activeX control without disabling the warning in IE. The workaround they gave me was to download the activeX to the PC directly, then it would work OK. That's fine if you only have one user, but the idea is that anyone with the login could connect to the camera and, viola! The activeX loads and installs and everyone is happy.

The hardware itself seems robust, and the PoE feature worked fine. The viewing angle was a little narrower than I would have liked, but since it had the ability to change lenses, I was okay with that.

I have returned this camera back to Amazon, and I have ordered the D-Link camera instead.Hopefully, that works better.

At this price point, you are better off with something else.

Review of TRENDnet Wireless Internet Camera Server (TV-IP110W)

I bought this on a Gold Box deal and am very glad I did. First, the image quality is superb. TRENDnet supplies software to assist in setting up the camera but people with a bit of technical experience can go straight to the web interface and set things up there and there are some great features that allow you to set this camera up pretty much however you want.

All of the camera settings are configurable - brightness, contrast, saturation, frame rate, resolution, and even settings to synchronize with 50 or 60 Hz lighting or outdoors. It also supports WPA2 encryption and three levels of password-protected access. You can have it grab images based on movement (requires accessing the camera with Internet Explorer to configure that for some reason) or on a time schedule, and either have it e-mail the images or ftp them somewhere. And it supports dynamic domain name configuration so you can access the camera even if your IP address changes.

It also supports time and date stamping the images - pretty much a necessity - but it also supports accessing an NTP server to make sure the onboard clock is accurate.

And once you get the camera all set up the way you want it, you can save out the configuration file to make it a snap to reconfigure it in case you ever do a hard reset that restores all the defaults.

Not that it will matter to most, but this camera server is actually a full ARM-based computer running Linux. If you go to the TRENDnet website, besides getting the latest firmware, you can also get the source code for the camera OS for those that want to tinker.

The final issue is just the value. You are getting a video camera and a web-serving computer with both wired and wireless interfaces for this price. I'm glad I got mine and am using it to monitor my front porch for visitors and also as a way to monitor the weather at home. With multiple cameras, it's easy to monitor all sorts of things if someone wants to.

Review of TRENDnet SecurView Wireless Day/Night Pan/Tilt/Zoom Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP422W (White)

Got this a few days ago. Very easy to configure. Had mine set up on my wireless network in minutes. Much better video quality than I expected for this price.
Definitely meant to be used indoors in low light. When I point it out the window, the image just washes out and goes all white. But indoors, with normal lighting, the image is great. Night time image is very good. The built-in IR LEDs work well to about 20ft or so. Beyond that, things are pretty dark. I tried an experiment and turned on a desk lamp with a very low power fluorescent bulb and the camera had enough light to see everything in the house in full color. Really good low light performance.
The microphone is also very sensitive. Almost too sensitive. It picks up every sound in the house. I can hear the ceiling fan, air conditioner, TV in another room, people talking in other rooms etc. Has 2-way audio but haven't tried it yet. UPDATE- two way audio works great. You need a powered, amplified speaker; I used an old computer speaker.
Super easy to operate. You don't need any special software to remotely view, just Internet Explorer. You can view with Firefox, but you lose some features. When viewing remotely over the Internet, you can click on any point in the image and the camera centers itself on that point.
Tons more options and features but, you can read about them on the manufacturers website.
If this had a true optical zoom, it would be just about perfect but, full Pan Tilt and Zoom cameras cost a lot more than this one.
I am pleasantly surprised with this camera. I've tried several 'affordable' cameras over the past few years and have been quite disappointed with them. The only really good network PTZ I've found is a nine hundred dollar Panasonic. Too expensive for me and it does not have audio.
If you need audio and full range pan ant tilt, but don't need zoom, this is probably your best choice right now for any price. Panasonic makes a nice, small, wireless camera with audio and pan and tilt but it does not have the range of motion that this camera has and this camera has much better low light image quality.

REVIEW UPDATE- I've had mine now for several months and it still works great. I changed the video setting to "outdoor" and now it works perfectly in full sunlight. And it still works just as good in full dark as it did with the other video settings. I was having some problems with the camera losing it's wireless connection to my Linksys router. I would have to power cycle the camera to get it to reconnect. But then I started having other problems with the Linksys router so I replaced my old Linksys router with a newer D-Link router and the problems have gone away. The camera has not lost it's connection since I replaced the router.
Because this camera is UV sensitive and does not have a switchable mechanical UV filter, daylight images sometimes look a little fuzzy, as if the lens is dirty. This is most noticeable when viewing indoors with a lot of sunlight coming in through the windows. I have other UV sensitive cameras and they exhibit the same behavior.
Overall, I am still quite pleased with this camera and just wish Amazon would make it a Gold Box deal so I could get another one!
Amazon recently put the Panasonic BLC131A wireless network camera on sale for about 1/2 price so I got one to try. The Trendnet TV-IP422W is far superior to the Panasonic; it has much better image quality, sound quality and range of motion, and the Trendnet configuration screens seem much more intuitive to me.
If Trendnet would add a zoom lens and a mechanical UV filter, this camera would be perfect.

Review of TRENDnet SecurView Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP110 (Silver)

I bought two of these cameras two month ago. The product itself is OK if you plan to use it in a small room. The quality is mediocre for objects located over 20 ft. away, and the objects seem to be much further away then they really are. The software for this camera (SecurView) is very unstable and I could not set up e-mail function to work properly. I also use IP201 camera from Trendnet, and that one is sold with IPViewPro software. Neither TV-IP110 works with IPViewPro, nor TV-IP201 works with SecurView software, so it's a one big mess. Using my basic HTML skills I ended up creating a web page that I run from my PC to see all my cameras (two TV-IP110, one TV-IP100, and one TV-IP201) on one page. Also, I had to buy another program (Active Webcam) to manage my cameras without headache. Again, the focus in very poor on anything over 20 ft away.

This is a great value for what you get.The only problem that I forsee with the cameras is you have to put them a little further away to get good range. For instance, the one on our front porch was going to be placed right over the door so we could see who came to the door, but it was limited to about a 4-6' radius view.We moved it to the corner of the porch so we could get a wider view. The brackets that are attached to the camera are metal, but kind of hard to adjust and don't seem that sturdy, but for the price they are fine.
